A bilingual summer studio course designed for ENL students in grades 9–12, particularly those new to high school, recently arrived in the United States, or unable to enroll in a traditional studio art course due to academic scheduling requirements.

Students learn to:

• Practice brief guided meditation to build focus and awareness
• Slow down and observe with intention before creating
• Explore the elements of art through drawing, painting, and mixed media
• Understand flow as a creative state through rhythm, repetition, and process
• Express emotion and identity through thoughtful mark-making

Inspired by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s concept of flow, the course emphasizes that mindfulness can be found within the creative process itself.

Reflection and studio practice are central to the experience, supporting both artistic growth and emotional grounding during an important transitional stage of high school.
